AHEM and EUROCLIO, with financial support from USIP (United States Institute of Peace) realized a project with title: “Retelling the History”.

Retelling the History

During 2007 was organized project “Retelling the History”, organized by AHEM (Association of History Educators of Macedonia) and EUROCLIO (Association of History Educators of Europe) and financially was supported from USIP (United States Institute of Peace).
 

In the project participated 11 historians, teachers from elementary and secondary school and researchers. Also participated foreign experts professor Dean Smart from University of West England, professor Keith Barton from Cincinnati University and Joke Van der Leeuw-Roord, executive director of EUROCLIO. During the working sessions were present guests from the region from Bulgaria, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
 

The aim of the project was to create alternative curriculum for history on which beside political and military history bigger attention is focused also on the everyday life of ordinary peoples.
Project team decided to create alternative program for the period Macedonia on the XX century. Beside alternative program were prepared four education materials which are treating the period from 1999-2000.

 

The alternative program is promoting critical thinking, building of own opinions, treatment of opposite and sensitive questions, working with historical sources, multiperspecitivity.
Materials of the project were piloted with group of 20 students from secondary schools in Skopje, during which process was promoted principle of active learning.

 

In November 2007 the project Retelling the History was presented in annual symposium for History organized by INI (Institute of National History) in the building of the Institute of Macedonian Language “Krste Misirkov”, on which were participating history teachers, researchers and guests from the region, representatives from EUROCLIO and representatives of Dutch embassy in the Republic of Macedonia.
